Withdrawal from In@box Suntec

Hi my friends. Apologised for all the waiting because I am working on some assignments at the moment due to the festive season, parties and weddings. I will try my best to upload some of my new designs here as soon as I can.
I have withdrawn from InQbox@ Suntec City due to my busy workload. Actually, I started making jewelleries due to my love for crystals and semi precious stones. However, as time goes by, making jewelleries has become my 'part time' job unknowingly! I think I should be happy about being busy. Everyday passed by fast and fulfilling. My greatest Christmas wish is to be able to spend more time with my parents.
Nevertheless, thanks to all my friends for your support and recommendations.

Kim Kim' s necklaces

Hihi!!!
Sorry for the long wait....took a little rest to recharge myself after clearing the last batch of orders. But I guessed I can't rest too long because there's new orders awaiting me!

Its exam time for primary school kids. Today should be the last paper for most schools I guess...One of the happiest girl today should be my niece, Kim Kim. Its her science papers today and also the last paper! I really pity school children nowadays. They are not like our era...My niece is in Primary 4 this year but her daily school work is more like what I have learnt during my secondary school days.

Yesterday my dad showed my niece a few pictures of drawings because she loved to draw. To our surprise, she told my dad, "Hey this is Van Gogh's paintings!"
We went dumbfounded because we never expect her to say this even though we knew her passion in arts. Kim Kim never fail to give me shocking answers like this...What was I doing when I was in Primary 4? What was I doing at that age? I am very sure I have no idea who is Van Gogh back then...I can only recalled playing Go Li (marbles), 5 stones, zero point, police and thieves, barbie dolls, going for tuition lessons and library to borrow tons and tons of books using all my family members library cards! Haahhaaaa....Yeah...I was quite a tom boy and a bookworm when I was young! Hahahaaaa..

Our younger generation will not be able to enjoy the simple childhood lifestyles and games that all of us have been through...what a pity. But on the other hand, this group of people is much smarter then us, don't you agreed?

The below pictures are necklaces done by Kim Kim. They are not for sales of course. She made it for her mummy the day before..She was supposed to be revising for her exams but NO. She did not touch any of her books. She came into my room, took all the tools and beads she wanted, made herself comfortable, started making after asking me how to go about making a necklace. Yes! She wanted to make a necklace this time but no idea how to go about making one. So I showed her mine but taught her a simple method to make it. After some verbal instruction, she proceed smoothly without much difficulties! Hmm I am really jealous of how these young kids can absorb so fast!!!

Then I asked her,"Kim, don't you have to study for your Chinese papers?" She just keep quiet and shake her head.
Her silence makes me feel the stress in young kids like her. So I let her continue with her necklace. After chatting with her for a while, I asked her, "Kim ah, you got stress a not?". She nodded her head and told me making jewelleries helped her to destress.. I asked her in a joking manner because I don't want her to take it to heart. I noticed when a public holiday is approaching, she is very cheerful and talk non stop! But if the next day is a Monday where she got to go to school, she will be very quiet...

Children can also be stressful like adults but adults may not have detect it. If you have any young children at home, do pay more attention to them. Spend more time with them.
My niece's academic results are pretty good but I noticed her results are even better when she sleeps early on the eve of her papers. Moral of the story is good quality sleep is very important and last minute studies will not help much.

I promised to post her works here so hope this will make her day when she see it later :) I think her workmanship has improved a lot! Good job, Kimberly!

Its World Environment Day today!

World Environment Day,commemorated each year on 5 June. This special day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972. The main international celebrations of World Environment Day 2008 will be held in New Zealand, in the city of Wellington this year.
The World Environment Day is being celebrated in many ways, including street rallies, bicycles parades, green concerts, essay and poster competitions in schools, tree planting, recycling efforts, clean-up campaigns and much more. In many countries, this annual event is used to enhance political attention and action.

Let us take this day to seriously examine and reflect our daily actions contributing to our environment. Well, it is a fact that the climate is changing. The choices we make that impact on the environment should be changing as well. By making the right choices now, we can at least slow down climate change. Climate change affects you and me, both physical and mental health.
Here are some ways within our abilities to save the environment.

(a)Monitor your energy consumption. If your monthly energy consumption is higher than national average shown on bill, assess your family's electricity usage & see how you can cut down on usage.

(b)Switch off, when not in use. Energy consumed by appliances & electronic equipment in standby mode can account for up to 10% of your total electricity bill. Switch off the mains when not in use.

(c)Use electric fan instead of aircon.Aircon consumes 10 times more energy than electric fan. Use fan, where possible. We have enough of air con in the office. Too much air con makes the skin very dry and damp energy accumulates in our body. That is also one of the main reason for all the aching pain...

(d)Use Natural lighting.Use natural lighting whenever possible. If lights are required, use energy-efficient fluorescent light bulbs which consume 80% less energy than standard bulbs.

(e)Use of Aircon.Ensure that windows and doors are closed in aircon areas.Ensure that air temperature is maintained within 22.5-25.5°C, specified in the S'pore Standard Code of Practice for Mechanical Ventilation & Air-conditioning in buildings. Dirty air filters impede airflow, leading to increased energy consumption. Check the air filters once a month and clean or replace them as necessary.

(f)Lights off, when not in use. Make it a habit. Turn off lights in unoccupied room or whenever not required.Turn off lights during lunchtime and before leaving office.

(g)Purchase Energy Star models as these are more energy efficient & are fitted with power management features.

(h)Shut Down.Enable the power management feature on your PC & set your other office equipment to automatically power down when they are not in use for more than 15 mins.Turn all equipment off before leaving office at night and over the weekends.

(i)Do not waste food. Many unseen hardwork and resources behind the scene. Many people are starving or under nutrition in this world.

May love and light be shed upon them..

I was still full of hope when last week news reported foreign aids were allowed into Myanmar. But I was wrong..it seems like the situation is not getting much better. Saw the news that Myanmar's military leaders is evicting storm refugees from relief camps back to their land to tend their fields and revive agriculture. Reviving agriculture is indeed vital but they are forcing people home without any aid. Many people are still starving..Another piece of news that I come across really sadden my heart...Here's a paragraph extracted from the news, "hunger could not be a problem, since farmers can gather water clover or go out with lamps at night and catch plump frogs." Oh my god..this is so so sad..According to the news report, this is a statement made by the military leaders of the country...
Check out these 2 links if you are interested to read more.

Aren't we fortunate to be living in Singapore...Many people complaint and complaint about anything or everything but I think the problems we enountered are so tiny compared to people in Myanmar...
I hope..I pray...for peace and love to surround the entire universe..May love and light be shed upon every dark corners of the world..I really hope love can put a smile back onto these people's face again...

Not meant for sale

These were made by my 10 years old niece, Kimberly. Whenever I am making my jewelleries, she will come into my room and 'disturb' me. Curious about everything..from my stones..beads...wires...pliers...boxes everything...Kids are so curious with a lot of things and they can talk non stop..ask non stop. Sometimes, I got freak out by all her questions! Hahahaaa..
One day when I was making my jewelleries, she started to take out the different boxes and beads. She told me she wanted to learn how to make earrings so that she can make for her mummy. I told her to choose the beads she liked. Oh my god...she choosed all the expensive ones!! In order not to disappoint her, I allow her to use my swarovski beads...I taught her how to make the loop..explained to her the rationale behind every steps/methods. She picked up very fast. That's the wonders of kids. They picked up fast. It also happen that she is very good in art and likes handicraft works like me. She used to say her ambition was to become an ART teacher when she grew up. I wonder does that apply till today...Practice makes perfect. In order to let her master the skills, I will allow her to practise with my wires and beads whenever I make my jewelleries. I think she is so into making, she told me she wanted to make earrings as X'mas presents for her other aunties. I guessed it was a boost to her confidence. Her effort and sweet thoughts were well appreciated. The earrings in the picture were made by her last year. Now she aimed to learn how to make bracelets!! So I told her to use the cheaper beads! Hahahaaa..She just completed the bracelet, as shown above last evening. I taught her how to hook up the beads to the chain. Guess what, she lost her patience and grumbled 'in slience' as I forced her to complete it because she wanted to give up. Hooking the beads to the chain was not as easy as what she thought. However, since she wants to start, she must overcome the obstacles. I told her she must complete otherwise she can throw away the whole thing and I won't teach her again, but at the same time, I also tell her I will showcase her bracelet here if she can complete the whole thing. And that sets her to work. She wanted me to showcase her work here :p Everybody needs the right motivation & encouragement...be it adults or kids. Few weeks ago, Kim showed me a necklace made by her during her art club lesson. She was very pleased with her work becos nobody seems to know how to make the loop & hook up the ends of the necklace. But she knew how to do it and even help her friend with it. Kim Kim, I am so proud of you :)

Something to feel happy

So happy to know that foreign aids are now allowed into Myanmar. Let's hope that this can be done at a faster speed becos hundreds of thousands of people in remote areas are still waiting for food..clean drinking water..shelter.

A light from your heart

Feeling very heartache...News reported Sichuan province was hit by another round of earthquake - 6 on the magnitude. More disasters could be coming..floods..epidemic..more aftershocks/earthquakes..I think many of you feel as heavy hearted as I am after reading all the news reports. Many heartwarming stories arising from this disasters as well. Really touched to see majority of the China nationalites working together as one heart to help and rescue their fellow people. Some may say, "Of course, they are all China people mah." Its easy to say this, but when things happen, how many can stay united like they did. Another group of important people to commemorate is the rescue team who have been working very very hard. These group of noble people have demonstrated their strong determination to rescue as many people as they can. Guys, please be careful and take care of yourselves too.

While a lot of attention is being focused on the earthquake in Sichuan, many of us are probably not aware of how bad the situation is in Myanmar. Situation in Myanmar is not any better off then in SiChuan. I am not from Myanmar but I came across the news on the internet.
Here's a short paragraph from the news, "Without clothes or shoes, the thousands of men, women and children made destitute by the cyclone could only stand in the mud and rain of the latest tropical downpour, their hands clasped together in supplication at the occasional passing aid vehicle," the reporter wrote. "Any car that did stop was mobbed by children, their grimy hands reaching through a window in search of bits of bread or a T-shirt."

This is the power of media. Foreign aids are not able to reach the country, thus resulting in a rising number of deaths due to disease and starvation. Actually there are many unfortunate scenes in this world but we will not be aware of it unless it is been reported. Sometimes, media are not able to report due to many reasons..
I overheard from my brother the other day that his colleagues from Myanmar will try calling back to their hometown everyday. But all they get was disappointment and tears after every calls...rays of hope diminished as the days went by...they couldn't get hold of any of their loved ones becos their whereabouts were unknown..whether are they safe or still around...
Needless to say, many of those from China and Myanmar staying overseas will be very anxious to fly back home immediately...

People in Sichuan are still searching frantically at every hospitals or even among the rubbles for their families & relatives. All they hope was a miracle to happen..
I imagined myself having to search for my little niece among a crowd, my mind will be in a swirl and my heart will bouncing like crazy! The thought of this is enough to make me go crazy..then what about the people in Sichuan and Myanmar..

I heard many people around me discussing about the huge amount of money raised for these 2 disasters especially the one in Sichuan..Some were wondering and in doubts whether these money will really be put into good use. Initially I have the same thought. But then I think again, who are we to know this amount is more then enough for the victims to rebuild their hometowns, infrastructure, medical, food supplies...etc...The damage done is far too great and extensive. The people need more then that to walk out of their trauma and sorrows.
Actually, donation is one of the easiest way to contribute...if any of you are thinking to buy any branded goods right now, perhaps you can also spare some money for those less fortunate. If you are thinking of dinning at some expensive place, perhaps you can also afford to spare a little bit for those in need. Or perhaps you are thinking of buying a cup of ice cream, you may want to skip that for now and donate this bit of money.
If by chance, you wanted to buy any of my accessories, I hope that you can use the money to help those people in China or Myanmar first. There are many channels to make donations but just be more cautions and alert when you made your donations so that they do not get into the wrong hands. If there's anyone at any part of this world who wants to take advantage of this disaster to earn quick bucks, please have a heart. What we reap is what we sowed.

I think we are super fortunate to be living in Singapore. Singaporeans have been rather active and generous in our donations but we will never be able to understand what those victims had gone through. Becos we are so fortunate, we take many things in our daily life for granted. If you are feeling hopeless, unhappy or angry with somebody/situation, put them aside...becos as compared to those victims, our problems, unhappiness or anger is really really very small issue.

Whether you are a Buddhist, Taoist, Muslim, Christian or Catholic, remember these victims(be it those alive or not around anymore)and rescuers in your prayers. If you do not have any religion, you can also send a light from your heart to these people.

New designs include LNK032, LNK033 & E190. Recently, I fell in love using Jade as part of my designs. Jade is no longer just a traditional piece of gem stone. Creative and bold designs had it evolved as part of the modern jewellery. Jade is a symbol of purity & serenity. It is associated with our heart chakra, increases love and peace at heart. It is a protective stone, which keeps the wearer from harm and brings harmony. It is also believe to attract good luck and friendship.
